Site Reliability Engineer

The mission

We're building tools for mental health and neurodiversity care, a space where the people you're building for are clinicians who've dedicated their careers to helping others, and where the data flowing through your systems represents real people at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. The systems you design here aren't abstract infrastructure, they're the thing standing between a clinician and the information they need to make a good call for a patient. If you want your engineering work to have a visible, human endpoint with people getting better care because your system was built right, this is that kind of role. We work directly with clinicians delivering neurodiversity assessments and our mission is to end waiting lists.

What you'll do

Own business-critical backend systems end-to-end, from design through deploy and monitoring, and shape how we respond when something breaks. You'll be building the infrastructure that lets clinicians trust the tools we give them, which means security and data integrity aren't compliance checkboxes here, they're core to whether the product works at all.

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience.
  • Shipped and owned business-critical production backend systems end-to-end: design, deploy, monitor, on-call.
  • Comfortable handling sensitive personal/health data, with working knowledge of GDPR and data protection basics (encryption, access control, data minimization).
  • Strong with cloud infra (AWS/GCP/Azure) and can build/evolve infra without a dedicated platform team.
  • Solid API and database design skills, including schema design for structured data at scale.
  • Security-first instincts: threat-models features proactively rather than reactively.
  • Startup-calibrated: moves fast in ambiguity without cutting corners on data integrity or reliability.

Nice to have

  • Experience with our specific stack: Python, AWS, React, TypeScript, Auth0.
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform/CDK).
  • Background in asynchronous processing pipelines or structured data extraction.
  • Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA-adjacent).
  • Experience integrating with EHRs, clinician tools, or other healthcare systems.
  • Strong observability chops (logging, tracing, alerting setups).
  • Comfortable explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders (clinicians, ops, compliance).
  • Familiarity with corporate IT fundamentals (device management, SSO/identity, networking basics).

Pay and equity

We pay circa £110,000 for this role, depending on your experience. The role also carries equity, so you hold a share of what you help build.
